WhatsMyName Apps username search offers a starting point when you are choosing a new handle or reviewing your own old accounts. The key is to follow up on the public results rather than treating a matching nickname as a confirmed identity.
Disclosure: I build WhatsMyName Apps and FreeUsername. This is an independent project, not the official WhatsMyName open-source project.
