To the Western eye, deities with four, eight, or a thousand arms can look jarring. Symbolically, however, multiple limbs represent omnipower and omnipresence. A deity with four arms can accomplish four times as much; they can hold the weapons of destruction to vanquish evil while simultaneously holding symbols of knowledge, wealth, and blessing.
